Horní Vidim lies on a broad ridge surrounded on all sides by valleys lined with sandstone cliffs. To the east and south of the village is Sitenský Valley, near Vidim Chateau. To the west lies Vidimský Valley, neighbouring the rock areas around Chudolazy and Nové Osinalice and joining Sitenský Valley east of Tupadly. To the north rises the rugged massif of Supí hora, separated from the Vidim ridge by a wide depression into which Bukové Valley from Dobřeň, Střezivojice Valley and Osinalice Valley all descend.
The rock towers are mostly grouped in smaller clusters on the valley slopes, often in two tiers one above the other, which can make orientation difficult. The main entry points into the rocks are Horní Vidim, Dolní Vidim, Dobřeň and Sitné (served by local buses), as well as Chudolazy and Tupadly (served by long-distance buses). Refreshments are available at the pub in Horní Vidim, as well as in Dobřeň and Šemanovice.
Climbing is prohibited on Starý Zámek, north-west of Vidim, as it is a protected cultural heritage site.
