The Jestřebické pokličky are sandstone rock formations located above the Vojtěšský důl, about 1.5 km east of the village of Jestřebice. Like the Mšenské pokličky, they are a typical example of so-called selective weathering of sandstone, which forms their characteristic ‘stone lids’. These landforms were created by the erosive action of water and wind, which wore away the softer sandstone layers while the harder iron-bearing sandstones and conglomerates at the top remained intact. This resulted in the creation of typical stone ‘tables’ with domed tops, resembling lids. This process is still ongoing, so it is possible to observe the various stages of their development – from young formations to those in the process of disintegration.
