The Čertovy hlavy (Devil's Heads) are rock reliefs, about thirteen metres high, depicting two giant heads carved into a sandstone massif in the forest above the village of Želízy. They were created by the sculptor Václav Levý during the Romantic period, between 1841 and 1846. In terms of size, this is a truly unique work by Czech standards.
The reliefs are now quite damaged. They are freely accessible via the blue hiking trail starting from the municipal office in Želízy. The trail continues on to Klácelka Cave, which features reliefs of prominent figures and heroes from Czech history. About 2.5 km along the hiking trail north-west of Želízy, you’ll also find the Harfenice and Had rock reliefs, created between 1840 and 1845.
