Chapel of the Holy Sepulchre in Mimoň

According to the town chronicle, the Mimoň and Děvín estates were purchased by Jan Putz of Adlersthurn in 1651. During his travels, he journeyed first to Rome and then continued on to Jerusalem, where he visited the sites associated with the suffering and death of Jesus Christ. It was there that he first came up with the idea of building a replica of the Holy Sepulchre in his homeland.

By the time he returned to Bohemia, however, the Thirty Years’ War was raging in Europe, preventing him from carrying out his plans. As he lay dying in 1660, Jan Putz made his eldest son, Jan František Edmund, promise to build the Chapel of the Holy Sepulchre in Mimoň.

Construction work began in 1665 under the renowned builder Giulio Broggio and was completed in 1667. The chapel was ceremonially consecrated a year later.
