We can say that Mšeno is the ‘gateway to the Kokořín region’ or, at the very least, a convenient starting point for exploring the entire area.
The first written mention of the village dates back to 1306. The original settlement was part of the royal estate, but Mšeno was already a town as early as 1367. Mšeno was devastated by frequent fires. There are several half-timbered houses in the town, and the historic town centre has been designated a municipal historic district. The historic city centre consists of two parts: the urban section, centred around Míru Square and Masarykova Street (a short boulevard with the character of a square) featuring the Church of Saint Martin (built between 1876 and 1878), and the lower, originally rural section known as Podolec. Today, both parts form a coherent whole.
