Úštěk

Úštěk consists of a beautiful historic centre perched on a prominent sandstone ridge, two suburbs and several outlying villages. The present-day centre, occupying a rocky promontory above the valleys of the Loubní and Úštěk streams, was already settled back in prehistoric times. Archaeological finds from the area date back to the 10th century, when ancient trade routes from Litoměřice to Lusatia passed through here. In the 14th century, the Lords of Michalovice built a castle here, and in 1361 Úštěk was granted the status of a town.

Situated on the north-western edge of Kokořínsko, Úštěk is an excellent starting point for exploring the region.
